But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” (EXO 4:13 ESV)
When God calls Moses to deliver Israel Moses makes all sorts of excuses, all of which God patiently addresses, before finally getting to this. This is insightful in understanding God’s call. It isn’t always to something that we want to do. I’ve seen too many people shy away from serving in capacities that match their skills because the need didn’t fit their passions or their preconceived ideas of a more exotic call. As a result, needs in the church among God’s people go unmet.
Moses does go, though he doesn’t want to, and he is not the same man years later because he did. God’s call want only for the people Moses served. It was for him too.
