Day 291.
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out…
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day…
And he said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.” (John 6:37, 44, 65 ESV)
Often we see Jesus doing miracles and the people still not believing in Him. It seems astounding to read how someone could see the things these people saw and come away no different from before. Its as if they just refuse to see what their own eyes are telling them. And yet, Jesus explains why this is the case. No one can come to believe unless the Father draws him. It takes more than just seeing and thinking through what you are seeing. It takes the internal call of God too. This differentiates between the external and internal call of God. The external call is meant to go to all people. It is why we preach the gospel to everyone and travel the world to make him known. And yet, only those who have been internally called by the Father respond to that call so that the is no doubt that it is God at work in a person’s salvation. The glory and credit go to God!
Lord, thank you for the events in my life that prepared me to believe in you. And thank you for the comfort of knowing that if you have called me then you will not let me go for you will not lose any that the Father gives to you. This is such a great comfort when I have self doubt, and it spurs me on to love you all the more.
