Day 226.
But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. (Jeremiah 29:7 ESV)
When Judah was sent into exile to Babylon, they hoped to quickly return and consequently made no investment in the city in which they dwelt. They desired to keep themselves cloistered apart. But this was not good. Jeremiah instructs them instead to set down roots where they are planted and invest themselves in the life of the city. Even though exiled, the call of Abraham still applies in that they are to be a blessing to the nations. Here is their opportunity to be that blessing as they bring with them the knowledge of God.
We too are to lay down roots and involve ourselves in seeking the welfare of our city. How can you do this?
