Day 177.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
but the Lord weighs the heart. (Proverbs 21:2 ESV)
Have you ever noticed how hard it is to see fault in your own steps? It is so much easier to see the sin of others. We have lots of biases and defenses that prevent us from seeing our own sin. But, that doesn’t t make any of our sin okay. We do not get to weigh our own heart. We do not get to measure our own actions against the right and wrong that we imagine, or get to somehow offset our sin by all of the things that we may have initially used to justify it. It is the Lord that weighs the heart, not us. This is why the Proverbs speaks so often of listening to the counsel and even criticism of others. This is that it means to be wise: to fear God enough to listen to those who can expose our sinful ways in which we cannot. How we need to people close to us that have the freedom to speak truth to us!
