Day 320.
“I hate, I despise your feasts,
and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them;
and the peace offerings of your fattened animals,
I will not look upon them.
Take away from me the noise of your songs;
to the melody of your harps I will not listen.
But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. (Amos 5:21-24 ESV)
The prophet Amos writes to Israel about the judgment that God is bringing (by way of the Assyrians) because of their backsliding. They come together to worship God at the appointed times with songs of praise and yet spend the rst of their lives for themselves. They seek to prosper according to the wisdom of their culture, which has them very intrested in their own well being and blind to the well being of others. Things haven’t changed much in American “Christian” culture. Many go to church on Sundays to sing upbeat praise songs but spend the rest of the week building their own lives with little thought of the plight of others. God is not interested in our praise when it only comes from our lips and is not reflected in our lives.
What kind of praise do you offer God?
Ask the Lord to help you trust Him for your daily needs that you might live for the benefit of others as Jesus does.
McCheyne’s reading plan: 1 Ch 9-10 He 12, Am 6, Ps 87-88
I praise God all the time.
