It is startling to read prayers in the Psalms about the destruction of others. It gives us pause to ask, should we pray such things? In this particular Psalm the writer has been describing the glory of God’s kingdom, a glorious meditation. In light of this, praying for the destruction of the wicked is a prayer to preserve the purity of God’s kingdom.
Let sinners be consumed from the earth,
and let the wicked be no more!
Bless the Lord, O my soul!
Praise the Lord! (Psalm 104:35)
