In the Old Testament, the law sought to conform people by external means. It was written on stone. It served to show the great gap that exists between our hearts and the Lord. But when Jesus came, he came to give us new hearts, with the law written on it. It isn’t as though the law no longer matters, but rather we are being changed from the inside out to know and love and keep it.
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people. (Heb 8:10)
