McCheyne’s Bible Reading Plan: Ex 38, Jn 17, Pr 14, Ph 1
Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. (John 17:1-3)
There is no salvation outside of Christ. Anyone coming from another religion, no matter how sincere or knowledgable or zealous, is excluded from eternal life. Anyone who has never received Christ is lost and will know it when Jesus returns. Salvation is a matter of receiving that which God has given (or, he whom God has given), and he has not been given to everyone. Some might say this is unfair, until you see that God’s gift isn’t given on the basis of reward or merit, for know one would ever get it. Instead, God give out of his generosity. Doesn’t God have the right to do what he desires with his riches?
