McCheyne’s Bible Reading Plan: Ex 10, Lk 13, Job 29, 1 Co 14
So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. (1 Cor 14:12)
Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. (1 Cor 14:29-33)
But all things should be done decently and in order.(1 Cor 14:40)
Paul gives instruction on the use of spiritual gifts and explains that they are for the purpose of building up the church, and should thus be used accordingly. When together for worship we must remember that God would have us worshiping together, rather than worshiping Him individually while gathered. He is a God of order and of peace. This means when we prophecy, or I would add pray, that we do so in turn so that all might be able to say “amen” with us, rather than all pray over each other at the same time.
