Day 236.
And Haman recounted to them the splendor of his riches, the number of his sons, all the promotions with which the king had honored him, and how he had advanced him above the officials and the servants of the king. Then Haman said, “Even Queen Esther let no one but me come with the king to the feast she prepared. And tomorrow also I am invited by her together with the king. Yet all this is worth nothing to me, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.” (EST 5:11-13 ESV)
Harman shows us how fickle our joy is when built on the things of this world. One little thing can wreck all the others. It is a depiction of worshiping created things rather than the Creator, for whom we were made. Created things weren’t made to he the objects of ultimate satisfaction and so their satisfaction is fleeting and precarious.
May God turn our hearts and.longings toward Him and set us free from the enslavement of worshipping created things.
