Day 338.
But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. (2 Corinthians 3:14-16 ESV)
“They” in this passage is the Jews who don’t believe Jesus is the Christ. Paul explains that their reading of the Old Testament it is veiled. This is such an interesting thing to say since the Rabbis were experts in the law, the history, and the prophecies of the Old Testament. Paul teaches us that unless you receive Jesus as the Christ, then the true meaning of the Old Testament will remain hidden from your eyes, for the Old Testament is about Jesus. After Jesus resurrection he met up with two of his disciples as they walked along the road, and, not knowing who he was, he asked them what they were talking about. They told him how they had hoped Jesus was the one to save Israel. Jesus then went on to explain how the Christ had to suffer and die, “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. (Luke 24:27 ESV)” After Jesus left them they talked with each other about his conversation with them and said, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” (Luke 24:32 ESV) If you want the key to unlocking the mystery of the Scriptures, you must receive Jesus as Christ and Lord.
Lord, help me to preach Jesus clearly as I preach the Word week after week, and may your Holy Spirit work powerfully in the hearts and minds of your people.
