Day 320.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 ESV)
Luke records Jesus’ great commission with these words above. Combined with Matthew, which tells us to go and make disciples, here we find that this will happen as the apostles bear witness to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. More specifically this will happen when they receive power from the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit that accompanies the words and gives birth to faith as others hear this testimony. These words have been fulfilled in the context of the Luke. The apostolic witness reached “the ends of the earth” when it made it to Rome in the final chapters of Acts. This testimony of the apostles is contained in the New Testament and becomes the foundation upon which we today build upon. Their eye-witness testimony is what we proclaim and we too do it in the power of the Holy Spirit. We must never forget the proclaim Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit which we do through prayer and faith. As we do, we know that God will always accomplish his purposes. We are thus the “angles” (messengers) sent to gather the elect from the for corners of the globe.
Lord, will you empower me today to proclaim Christ to someone by your Holy Spirit that your house may be full.
