Day 309.

“Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” (Luke 20:46, 47 ESV)

This passage reminds us of two things. One, it is possible to be steeped in the Scripture and valued as a wise teacher and yet be nothing of the sort. Beware of such people. Two, my own sinful nature pulls me in this direction!

Lord, protect your church from false shepherds, and protect me from ever becoming one.
