Day 241.
And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. (Ezekiel 11:19, 20 ESV)
Two hearts we are invited to compare: one of stone and one of flesh. The old heart is one of stone, hard and dead. The new heart is one of flesh, soft and alive. The change will allow the people to walk according to God’s commands. What is particularly interesting is the corporate nature of this work. God will give them one heart. It points to a single body with one heart made of God’s people. The new heart not only points to obedient living, but united living. The receivers of the new heart are those who have not gone after the false idols. These are the remnant who have likely suffered a degree of persecution for their restraint. God is cleansing the land and the people to make for himself a people united with one heart. He paints a great picture of the future Church, don’t you think?
