Day 123.

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble (Psalm 107:1, 2 ESV)

Psalm 107 invites us to give thanks as we reflect upon our redemption. Several examples of redemption are given: from desert wastes, from darkness and the shadow of death, from the foolishness of your own sin, and from the treacherous seas. Though very different in circumstances the pattern is the same: trouble and danger brought by the Lord for rebellion and sin, crying out to the Lord while in distress, and a great rescue by the Lord. The oppression is hard, but the redemption is greater. Through the redemption we begin to know the Lord and his steadfast love. So, let us thank the Lord for our trouble as it reveals this great love for us!
