Rescued from Death

Day 86.

Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.
I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify your name forever.
For great is your steadfast love toward me;
you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. (Psalm 86:11-13 ESV)

This is the prayer of someone who has seen his own death and yet was rescued from it. Every fiber of his being is driven by the steadfast love that was displayed in the mighty rescue. His life is one of gratitude and he cannot help but gush with praise for his savior. He knows his life is not his own now, that it belongs to his rescuer and so he prays for help,

Teach me your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.

He prays such because he knows the forgetfulness of his heart and the weakness of his flesh, so his sets his pray to counter those things so that he can fulfill his desire to live that life of gratitude and praise that consumes his heart and mind in the immediate joy of his rescue.

Have you ever sensed the real danger and ugliness of your own sin, like dipping your foot in an icy stream? Have you ever nearly fallen into that icy stream but had someone grab you and keep you from it at that moment you thought you were gone? Cling to Jesus as you clung to that rescuer!
