according to the covenant that I made with you when you came out of Egypt. My Spirit remains in your midst. Fear not. For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts. The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.'” (Haggai 2:5-9 ESV)
Just when those in exile might have been ready to abandon their faith for fear that God had forgotten them or failed to keep his covenant, they hear from his prophet, “according to my covenant…” And the promise they receive is a promise to once again become great, even greater in fact. “The latter glory will be greater than the former…” How will the Lord do this? He will “shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land.” In other words, the scope of the Lord’s work is great. It will “shake all the nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in” so that God’s house will be filled with glory.
In the New Testament we find that these treasures are people, you and me! We are that which God treasures! And by shaking the nations with the gospel and working wonders of turning enemies into family, the glory of the Lord is made known. This is God’s greatest show of glory, the building of His house, the seeking and saving the lost.
As you read the Bible, you must see the glory of God revealed in the building of His house. This is what will move you to worship.
Do you ever feel like God has forgotten you as you see culture shifting further and further from the Lord? Remember God’s prophecy and promise. Do you see people as God’s treasure?
Thank the Lord that He has treasured you and thus given you a reason to bow in worship before Him.
