Day 354.
Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity!
It is like the precious oil on the head,
running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his robes!
It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing,
life forevermore. (Psalm 133:1-3 ESV)
The Psalmist reflects on the nation of Israel, often divided by competing sons of the king. But great blessing results when brothers dwell in unity. The images are similar: Aaron being anointed, and the dew on Mt Hermon. Aaron was the brother of Moses, anointed by Moses according to God’s Word to serve as priest for the people. The oil was poured on his head to anoint him, a picture of the Holy Spirit poured out upon him as a blessing to the people. Hermon was also known as having a heavy dew, a kind of anointing, upon this mountain that consequently flowed down upon the surrounding valleys to nourish them. This are the great images used to show how blessing pours out from God and flows to the people when brothers dwell in unity.
What kind of blessings result when you dwell in unity with your brothers?
Ask the Lord for His blessing to dwell in unity with your brothers, both those in your immediate family, and those in your church family.
McCheyne’s reading plan: 2 Ch 22-23, Re 10, Zech 6, Ps 132-134
Joy, love, peace, hope, greater accomplishments, we reflect God’s goodness to others when we get along, a greater future.
It blesses my parents and my grandparents when I get along with my brothers. It brings peace to our house.
