Day 301.

Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment,7 for we brought nothing into the world, andt we cannot take anything out of the world.8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. (1 Timothy 6:6-10)

It may not seem like it, but Paul explains that sometimes doing without isn’t a curse but a blessing. Contentment is so much easier when you have less to tempt you away from pursuing and/or advancing the kingdom of God. As the writer of Proverbs writes:

Remove far from me falsehood and lying;
give me neither poverty nor riches;
feed me with the food that is needful for me,
9 lest I be full and deny you
and say, “Who is the Lord?”
or lest I be poor and steal
and profane the name of my God. (Pr 30:8-9)

Does this prayer seem far fetched to you? On which side of this – too much or too little – do you fall?

Pray this prayer before the Lord.

    We fall on the side of having way more than we need sometimes and forget we need God.
