Day 271.

In my distress I called upon the Lord;
to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears. (Psalm 18:6)

Psalm 18 comes after David is rescued from the hand of his enemies, in particular Saul. On more than one occasion was David close to be killed by Saul. Once Saul hurled a spear at him while David played the harp, but missed. Another time David had to flee at night out of his window with the help of his wife who put a dummy in his bed to fool those who sought his life. Still another time David fled without having any time to go back for any belongings or food. Yet again David and his small band of man were running from Saul with he on one side and Saul on the other, only narrowly escaping because Saul was called away. David was often in great distress and countless times had opportunity to doubt his calling. His relationship with the Lord was forged through times of distress. The good news is that God hears us in our distress. That is a great comfort and gives us reason to thank God even in the midst of distress.

When have you faced a time of distress? What was it like? What did you do for comfort?

Thank God for the trials that come in your life and for hearing you when in distress.
