Day 229.
So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. (Romans 7:21-25 Esv)

There is a war that rages in every person. For the unbeliever it is a war for significance and a fight against despair. For the believer it is a war against the sinful nature. Those belonging to Jesus have been awakened to delight in their inner being in the law, as it describes the character of God and paints a picture of life in God’s Kingdom. But we still know too well that our flesh is week and we sin. Becoming a Christian awakens this new desire to please the Lord, which now drives us. But the sinful nature will not die easily and it wages war against us, so there are times when we find ourselves in deep regret over our sin. It is enough to despair. But thankfully we have a rescuer.

Do you have a driving desire to please the Lord? Do you feel other desires waging war against that desire?
