Jeremiah writes to a nation that has turned from God. They still worship him ritually, but not from the heart. As a result, judgment is coming. Jeremiah describes it this way:
for my people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken me,
the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water. (Jeremiah 2:13 ESV)
As he gives them a picture of their folly that could understand. How do we do the same thing?
