Day 173.
The order of thing is everything when it comes to getting the gospel right. God first saves us and makes us his own. THEREFORE we obey. His work comes while we are still going astray and not as a reward for our goodness. It comes despite our waywardness. But it also has the affect of turning our desires toward the doing of God’s will. It isn’t a free pass to sin. Sin is both wicked, destructive, and enslaving, even if it is not recognized as such by those who are caught in it’s seduction. God’s salvation sets us free from that.
This day you have become the people of the LORD your God. You shall therefore obey the voice of the Lord your God, keeping his commandments and his statutes, which I command you today. (Dt 27:9-10)
