Ever notice how it is David’s times of danger and suffering that we read about his nearest experiences with the Lord? Jesus also was made “perfect through suffering” (Heb 2:10). It strikes me that hard times have the potential to be our greatest times of growth in grace, as we find out just how strong and comforting our Lord can be.

This Psalm was written when Saul has men watching David’s house in order to kill him.

But I will sing of your strength;
   I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
For you have been to me a fortress
   and a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my Strength, I will sing praises to you,
   for you, O God, are my fortress,
    the God who shows me steadfast love. (Psalm 59:16-17)
