McCheyne’s Bible Reading Plan: Lev 8, Ps 9, Pr 23, 1 Thes 2

When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what is before you,
2and put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite.
3 Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food.
4 Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist.
5When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven. (Pr 23:1-5)

The Proverbs warn us of eyeing wealth and toiling for it, as it will never satisfy or bring the life that we want from it. Wealth in itself is not evil, but the pursuit of it takes us away from the purpose we are to be about.
