It is hard to grasp the depths God went through to win our salvation for us, but occasionally we get an unhindered peek to see. Hebrews 5 does that for us in this passage, showing us how the humanity of Jesus both equipped Jesus to be our true representative as well as subject God himself to the trials and suffering that we face. It is amazing to think that God would “learn obedience through suffering.” And yet, that is what he did for us.
7In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 8Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek. (Heb 5:7-10)
