McCheyne’s Bible Reading Plan: Ex 35, Jn 14, Pr 11, Eph 4
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. (Jn 14:12-14)
This goes along with our study in 1 John. How do you know that you know God? You know because you keep God’s commandments. In other words, you live like Jesus (because the Spirit of Jesus is now in you). Our prayers, then, have power when we ask in Jesus name. Of course, this doesn’t just mean asking for what you want and tacking on the magical words “in Jesus’ name”, but means asking for the things Jesus himself would ask for as you are doing the things he does.
