McCheyne’s Bible Reading Plan: Ex 31, Jn 10, Pr 7, Gal 6
You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, ‘Above all you shall keep my Sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I, the LORD, sanctify you. (Ex 31:13)
In the time of Moses, the Sabbath was given to be a sign between God and His people. God provides enough for them to rest one day, and the people rest. What a great sign! It is so that His people remember that it is God that sanctifies them, that is, sets them apart. Sabbath keeping today is the same thing. It is our reminder that God does the work to provide for our salvation.
