McCheyne’s Bible Reading Plan: Ex 28, Jn 7, Pr 4, Gal 3
1Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight,
2for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching.
3When I was a son with my father, tender, the only one in the sight of my mother,
4he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live.
10 Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many.
11I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness.
(Pr 4:1-4,10-11)
This calls sons to listen to their fathers. Too many sons tune their fathers out these days as they feel the pull of culture. The same goes for dads too. This challenges dads to SPEAK God’s Word to their sons (and daughters) and LEAD them in paths of uprightness.
One of the great strategies in war has always been to divide your enemy so that you might conquer him. This is exactly what we see our enemy doing with fathers and sons – divide and conquer. If he can separate young people from the one uniquely appointed to the task of giving wisdom then he’s conquered. God calls us to rise against this and be counter-cultural.
