McCheyne’s Bible Reading Plan: Ex 26, Jn 5, Pr 2, Gal 1
Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. (John 5:25)
John has a double meaning in this verse. On the one hand he refers to those who are spiritually dead as he makes reference to those who, in his presence, “hear my words and believe him who sent me” will not be condemned. On the other hand he is referring to those who are physically dead and on the tomb. These will hear his voice. We marvel at this later hearing for we know that dead people cannot hear. John puts the two together to invite us to see that the same is true for spiritually dead people. It is a miracle of the same caliber either way.
How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? (John 5:44)
Had to include this verse too.
