McCheyne’s Bible Reading Plan: Ge 46, Mk 16, Job 12, Ro 16

Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith– to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen. (Romans 16:25-27)

It is always the gospel, the good news that salvation comes through faith alone, that brings glory to God. Here in this benediction Paul takes us back to the major points of his letter, that we are justified solely on the basis of the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and sanctified through the mortification of our flesh and the union we have with the risen Savior, so that we might willingly and enthusiastically offer our obedience to God– even to the point of self-sacrifice. It is this gospel leads to the glory of God.
